Rain

I hate days that start off rainy. Tends to set the mood for the entire day. And I especially hate rainy days when I have to drive into the office. Especially after getting no sleep. Poor Keari is really struggling with this bug she has.

I got home from work just in time to leave again to take Connor to his eye appt...darn traffic. Thankfully hubby offered to take him which left me free to grab a bit to eat and then give the little ones a bath. Keari climbed into bed and promptly fell asleep and hasn't been up since. Maybe she'll wake up in the morning feeling better. Connor's been having trouble with his contacts lately which was the reason for the exam today but it was determined that it was most likely the solution he's been using. Apparently the company has changed their formula in the last couple of months and there have been numerous complaints from people as a result. Let's hope the new solution works better for him.

Kenzie had softball practice tonight in preparation for a scrimmage on Sunday. Her knee is still really hurting her so the coaches aren't quite sure where to play her since she can't really run yet.

Wash Out

Today ended up being a complete wash out for everything we had planned. Kenzie wanted to have a picnic at Ferry Point...she even made brownies for it last night...but it's been raining since sometime during the night, so no picnic. We'll have to try for Friday but the brownies will be long gone by then. ;)

Connor was supposed to have tryouts tonight for the hish school soccer team but that also got rained out.

Tyler is the only one that was able to do his activity...lucky for him karate is held inside. ;)

The temperature was wonderful today...actually on the cool side...but tomorrow I'm hearing we'll be right back into the heat. Lovely. I'm ready for fall. It's been an incredibly hot summer so far.

I was glad to be working from home today as traffic was a mess. I'd love to do more days at home but I've only been able to talk them into 2. I guess that's better than nothing so I won't complain too much.

I think I'll actually try to read some tonight...currently reading Stork Club...after i vaccum downstairs and fold a couple loads of laundry.

Quiet

I can't remember the last time the house has been this quiet in the middle of the day. Adam and Keari are both taking naps, Connor and Bekah are outside playing soccer in the rain, Alex has been playing computer but is now getting read to go to work...and everyone else has gone to my parents house. It's nice to have some down time and what better time for that than on a rainy Sunday.

While it was quiet I decided to make some cookies. Amazing how fast that seems get kids to come out of the woodwork. Next thing I know, Connor and Bekah are done playing in the rain and both Keari and Adam have awakened from their naps. Guess I should have waited a little longer before starting the cookies.

This is supposed to be chocolate chip batter but it seems to be missing the prime ingrediant.

The cookies seemed to have turned out okay and were delicious even if they were a little chipless.

Adam was in a fiesty mood after he got up from his nap and decided he didn't like the newspaper in their recycling bin.

The girls had such a good time at Ferry Point Park that we headed back there again after dinner today. This time we decided to take the shorter path.

Buckets

That's what it was raining this morning. I knew I was going to be in trouble getting to work this morning as I was listening to the tv while getting dressed. They were talking about massive thunderstorms coming thru the area with large downpours and tons of lightening strikes. I hurried up and ran out the door hoping that maybe I would get lucky and at least most of the way to work before it hit. I should have known better as soon as I stepped outside...it was only 6pm and the heat and humidity were awful already so no such luck...I hit the deluge about 10 minutes into my drive...rain so hard that you could barely see. I drove out of it about 15 minutes later and then was good until I was about 10 minutes from work. I hit another huge down pour, it was coming down so hard and fast that even having the wipers on the highest setting couldn't keep all the water off the windshield. I thought about pulling off to the side of the road, as many other people had done, but was worried about somebody running into me there because visibility really was terrible. I opted to keep going, albeiting slowly, and by keeping the car lights in front of me visible I was able to get to work safely. The poor drains outside our garage looked liked a boiling pot...it was a bubbling mass of angry water. I was very thankful that we have a covered garage at work so I didn't actually have to get out in that mess...would have been soaked in 2 secs. I also said a few prayers as I was driving in it, one that I could arrive safely, and two, I thanked God that Alex didn't have to be driving anywhere right then. No way would I have wanted a 17 yr old, newish driver to out on the roads during that storm. The storm moved through our area in about an hour so thankfully the drive home was uneventful.

Tyler had another Karate class tonight. It was a good thing he went (this was an extra class for him to see which nights of the week he liked better) as only one other kid showed up. They were able to get lots of individual attention although I think both kids were getting a little punchy...this was their 4th day of 3 hr Karate camp in the morning.

Rain, rain

and more rain. What a terrible day to take a drive. The day started out with just enough rain to cancel all the sports activities for the day so we took advantage of the free day by going to have our family portrait done. We were done with that by lunchtime, so decided to head over to Andy's parents so they could see Adam. Well, if we had known it was going to be raining cats and dogs on the other side of the bridge, we would have just stayed home. And it continued to rain cats and dogs the entire way over to their house. We got soaked running from the van to their house...it was crazy. The rain was coming down so fast that it couldn't drain off the roads fast enough so there were rivers running down the streets. Ugh! No fun! But it was a nice visit and the rain finally decided to let up about the time we were leaving so at least we didn't have to face the deluge on the way home too.

A Good Day to be a Duck

So far we've had almost 2 inches of rain since last evening. Everything was already saturated from the rain we had the other day so the water is having a hard time finding places to go. Our corner was completely flooded out earlier this evening...brought back memories of Hurricane Isabelle. Here's a picture of the latest approaching storm...nice dark clouds heading our way...which have reached us at the time I'm typing this and are dumping tons more rain on us. I'm just very glad I'm not driving in it...did that on the way home but at least it was light out then. It took me an extra 45 minutes to get home.

Quack, Quack

Today would have been the perfect day if you were a duck...nothing but rain all day long...and lots of it!

I love the way the clouds look after an all day rain storm...thick, heavy, rolling, with just a hint of sun peaking through...

Buckets

Buckets of rain fell on me during my drive home tonight. Talk about a nasty drive. It started pouring just as I was getting ready to leave the office and continued to pour as I continued to drive. I'm not one that generally has any problems driving in bad weather but it finally got to the point when I was about halfway home that I had to stop. It was raining so hard that my wipers on high speed couldn't keep up and the wind was blowing so hard. The combination made it nearly impossible to see so I decided it would be best to get off the road for a little while to see if I could wait out the worst of the storm. I stopped, grabbed a bite to eat and got back on the road about a 1/2 hr later. By that point the rain had slacked off but now there was an accident that shut down 2 of the 3 lanes at the bridge going through Annapolis so I got stuck in all that mess. 3 hours after leaving work I finally made it across the Bay Bridge but I still couldn't go home. We were going to church tonight for Ascension Day...the boys were serving...and I made it with 5 minutes to spare. Whew!

A Bug in the House

A stomach bug, that is. Yuk! So far it's hit 5 of the kids and me twice...started with me and came back to me last night. How'd I get so lucky??

Whew it's been raining cats and dogs here all day. So far we've gotten over 2.5 inches and our back yard looks like a wonderful place for ducks to hang out. Amazing how much water is laying out there. And I don't think the chickens are enjoying all this wet weather, either.

The kids all went to the eggstravaganza at our church this afternoon. It got postponed last weekend due to snow...still can't believe we actually had snow Easter weekend. It would have gotten postponed again this weekend due to the rain but they decided to hold it in the hall. The kids came home with bags of candy and all kinds of goodies that they'd won some of which included a really nice backpack that Connor won, a big chocolate cake that Tyler won and a plate full of cookies that Taylor won.

I stayed home with Kearsyn...was hoping to get a little nap in since I was up most of last night not feeling well but Keari had other plans. I ended up going through all the clothes in the twins rooms and cleaning out their drawers. Also went through a bunch of boxes of baby clothes that had been given to us. Got tons of boxes of too small clothes ready to go back in the attic. Now if I could only find our 3T girl clothes up there we'd be all set. That size seems to have completely vanished while the <12 month girl clothes seems to have multiplied while they were in the attic.
