Changes

Today did not turn out how it was supposed to.  Kenzie and I were scheduled to go to Laurel for a softball tournament.  Even though she can't play, she wants to be there to support her team.  Alex/Connor had a baseball game in Easton.  Unfortunately the rain yesterday and overnight changed those plans.  No softball or baseball today.  Sooo, we got to clean the house instead.  ;)  And this kids actually did it without grumbling...a rare occasion around here.  We got everything, other than laundry...a never ending task around here, done pretty early so they have the whole rest of the weekend to play.  I plan on doing some reading and family tree work.

Tomorrow we'll spend some time on at the softball field.  Games have been scheduled to start first thing in the morning.  Then we'll have an early birthday celebration for Connor.  :)

Hot, Hot, Hot

It is only the beginning of June, right? The temps the last 3 days have been incredibly hot for this time of year...95 degrees with a heat index over 100. Was a good weekend to stay inside in the air conditioning. Unfortunately, that was not be the case on Saturday. The day started off with Andy and Kenzie leaving to go to Laurel for a tournament that was to last all day. They ended up playing 6 games...well 5 and the start of a 6th which ended up getting called due to a nasty storm that came through. Kenzie's team was ahead 1 - 0 so they ended up as Champions. Yay Lightning!

My day started with having to get Connor to a Wade-In where he was volunteering. Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication on where the Wade-In was being held but I managed to finally get him there, albeit a tad later than we'd said. This is an annual event that is held at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center. The objective of the wade in is to see how far you can walk into the water before you can't see your shoes anymore and then to measure the depth. The hope is that each year you can walk in a little further which would mean that the bay is getting cleaner. Connor ended up being the kid from his youth group that showed up to volunteer which was disappointing but they were very thankful that he came.

The twins had a baseball game at 3 and boy was it hot and there wasn't a hint of a breeze. It took over 1 1/2 hrs to play 2 innings at which point the other coach asked his team if they wanted to play another inning or quit then (games have a 2 hr time limit) and I was very thankful that they all voted to stop them. Of course, the twins coach wasn't happy about the decision...he wanted to keep playing...but I could have cared less at that point. Everyone else wanted to go home. Taylor got to pitch in the first inning for the first time and he did a great job...got two strike outs, walked a couple, and had a few hit off of him. Tyler ended up making the third out of the inning which I thought was pretty cool. Then in the second inning, Tyler made an awesome throw from third base all the way to first base and ended up hitting the running on the helmet as he stepped on the bag. It was pretty funny! and just goes to show you why you wear helmets during the game.

Ending the game early worked out well since I had to get Tay, Ty and Connor to the high school for select soccer tryouts. We were able to go home and get changed without having to rush around like chickens with out heads cut off.

After I dropped the boys off, I decided to walk across the field to where my parents were participating in the Relay for Life. I chatted with them for about an hour before it got too hot for me and I had to leave...ended up back there an hour later when I came back to pick the boys up from tryouts. They enjoyed having a short chat with their grandparents. The relay ended up getting cut short at about 11pm due to some pretty nasty storms that came through the area.

The good news from the soccer tryouts is that Connor got picked up by one of the teams. It's a team that he had actually practiced with a little last fall and the coach has decided to officially pick him up for the coming season. That's great news except it means we have to travel to Centreville for practices every Wednesday night. Maybe my parents will feed me dinner since they only live a few miles down the road from where they will be practicing.

We finally made it back home and jumped in the pool just in time for it to start lightening. Grr! That's the only sure way to get the kids out of the pool fast...usually you have to forceably drag them out. I did have a little time with Keari in the pool before the lightening started and she loved it. I think she's going to be another little fish.

Today, most everyone except me, Alex and Keari, went kayaking on the river....even some neighbor kids came along. From what I hear, everyone had a great time kayaking and swimming. They all came back and jumped in the pool for awhile.

I felt kind of bad for Alex...he spent the entire weekend studying for his finals which start tomorrow. He had to write two essays and a timeline for history which took him forever to do, the it was on to Biology. Those will be over with tomorrow, then it will be gym (which is a paper that he's already done) and Religion on Tuesday, Spanish and English on Wednesday and Math on Thursday. Hopefully Thursday will be a nice day because his class is getting together for an end of year party after the last exam.

Last Baseball Party

Tonight was Alex’s baseball party down in Tower Gardens. Alex has been with this same coach for a number of years now and the party always begins with a parents vs kids baseball game. When we first started years ago, the parents had no trouble beating the kids…today is another story. It was a rousing game of baseball with family members pitching to each other. The game ended when the last parent batter ended up getting hit with the ball during the pitchers warm up throws. Oops! I think the parents just used that as an excuse to end the game since they were losing. LOL

Then the party progressed to the beach at the bay where a cookout, kayaking and tubing took place. There was a huge turnout this year and everyone seemed to have a great time. We noticed towards the end of the party that one of the kids was paddling a kayak along the shore up the bay and was quite a distance away from us. When Andy finally caught up with him in his own kayak and asked the kid where he was going, he was told that he was paddling to the bridge. Mind you, the bridge was probably 5 miles away from where we were and he just matter of factly stated that he was paddling to the bridge. Kids! What are you going to do with them?? LOL

On the way home, we dropped Alex and Connor off at their youth leaders house from movie night and a sleep over.

A Reprieve

Today was to be a crazy day...practice in Easton @ 9, game at Love Point @ 9, game at Mowbray @ 9:30, game at Love Point @ 1:30, piano recital @ church @ 4. There would have been just enough time between the 3 early games to run home, grab a bite to eat, get 3 showers done and then get back to the field for the afternoon game, run home to grab a quick shower before heading to piano. Andy did the Easton trek, dropped Kenzie off, then went to Lowe's in search of driveway sealer and plants. He also dropped Alex off at practice before his game. I took the rest of the kiddos to the twins game @ 9:30. While there, we ran into Connor's coach (afternoon game) and discovered that game was cancelled due to coach and some players being sick. So that freed up our afternoon. Yay! So instead of running around like crazy people, we all came home after the morning games, my dad came down to drop off a load of mulch, I went to the store to look for a mother's day gift, showers have all been taken and we are just hanging out waiting til it's time to go to the recital.

Alex's team won this morning...they actually had the slaughter rule invoked which is unusual for their team. The twins also did well. It was the first game where they had kids pitch to each other and it actually went pretty good. Tyler scored a run and also tried to stop a line drive with his leg. Ouch! Tay had some good swings at the ball but wasn't able to connect...hopefully next. He needs to learn a little patience and not swing at every ball that comes in.

And for something completely different...can you tell what's lurking in the leaves?

A Short Game

The twins had a game tonight which was an adventure getting to. It started with me asking the boys, hours before we had to leave mind you, if they knew where everything was that they would need for the game. They assured me they did but of course when it comes time to go, they are missing something. Then Bekah decides to have a totally disgusting diaper as I'm carrying her to van which meant I had to throw her in the bathtub and do a quick change myself. Eww! So we are finally able to leave and head for the main road only to find it jam packed with cars. Quick change of plans put me on the back road to the field but of course that was packed with cars as well...that always happens when there is a problem on the main road. The trouble tonight was a very serious accident on the westbound Bay Bridge that resulted in 3 deaths and the bridge being completely shut down. I'm finally able to get through all the traffic and get the boys to their field, which of course is the one that we have to go down by the bridge to get to. It's a good thing we were able to get there because prior to us arriving they only had 5 players for their team. They decided to go ahead and start with the 7 and just play short handed as the game was already 15 minutes late getting started. The kids played great...alot of very short innings due to excellent fielding...so an hour later we were done. That almost never happens. I didn't think we'd have any trouble getting back home because the accident was in the opposite direction but I was soon to find out that they had started detouring westbound 50 onto the road I was traveling on and then back onto eastbound 50. That meant that all of us had to get detoured onto a side road early so as not to interrupt the U turn they had created at overpass for turning this westbound traffic around. Needless to say my 10 minute trip to and from the park was much longer tonight but we finally made it home. I'm very thankful that I was off this week because I would have normally been coming home around the time of the accident and would have gotten caught on the other side of the bridge.

Mom took Kenzie to her softball practice and then because of the mess down here just decided to keep her overnight. I know Kenzie is loving having her grandparents to herself for a change.

Andy landed safe and sound and is now trying to get home through the traffic. It looks like it's cleared out some from earlier so hopefully he won't have a long wait at the bridge to get over. The westbound side is still shut down and has been since 4pm this afternoon. They are looking whether there was any structural damage done to the bridge during the accident. Let's hope not because that's my one and only way to get to work although I don't have to go back until Monday. Here's one of the pics that they've had on the newspaper sites from the accident. At the time this accident happened, that far left lane has traffic heading in the opposite direction from the way these vehicles are facing. The Jerridan you see in the picture wasn't there to help tow away damaged vehicles...he was actually involved in the accident. This accident ended up involving 7 vehicles and was caused when a trailer came unhitched from an suv. The bridge was reopened around midnight after an inspection deemed there to be no structural damage. What a terrible tragedy.

Baseball Anyone?

Over the last two nights, I've been to 6.5 hrs of baseball with 2.5 more to come tomorrow. It's been beautiful weather and I actually got to see Alex's team play last night. It's the first time season that I've gotten to watch him play. They did great...won 11 -7...and Alex had some great plays in the field and assisted in making two outs in one of the innings. Connor's team played tonight and they also had a good game. Connor got the first hit for his team...took til the 4th inning...but when he hit it, he hit it good. Ended up with a triple and an rbi. He also scored that inning. He also had a good hit his next time up to bat.

Tomorrow Kenzie has softball practice which mom has agreed to take her to so I can get the twins to their game. Some things I can do on my own but getting them all to their games tomorrow when they start at the same time and are 40 miles apart isn't possible.

Andy comes home tomorrow from his trip and I know everyone is excited to have him back. It sounds like he's been having a good time and he was telling me tonight that he now wants to move to Utah.

The Craziness Begins

Okay, well I guess some would laugh at that title and say that our craziness began a long time ago. LOL The current craziness is due to Andy taking his annual trip with his dad. He left last night and they are currently winging their way to Las Vegas as I type. Among other things, they will be visiting the grand canyon and hoping to do the donkey down the canyon. How cool! and I'm quite jealous about it. But I'm looking forward to being off work for a week...with as crazy as things have been there, I definitely need the break.

So far I'm on schedule this morning. I've gotten two kids off to their respective games, albeit by other sources but hey, at least they are getting there. Kenzie is on her way to Westminster for her softball tournament. She has three games to play today and then the coach wants to take them out to dinner afterwards. How nice is that? Then they at least one more game tomorrow in Westminster. Depending on whether they win that first game determines whether they play others tomorrow. Alex has a 9am game, Connor and the twins have 11:30 games. Of course, Connor and the twins games are at two different parks. Nothing is ever simple. Then the boys have to serve at 7pm mass tonight. Pray that the kiddos behave themselves tonight.

At least I don't need to worry about a piano recital in the midst of all the games today. They were originally supposed to play today at the National Guild Auditions but their teacher got the weekends mixed up...it's actually next weekend...so good for me. =)

Gorgeous Weather

The beginning of this week has been sooo beautiful! It was down right hot on Monday and Tuesday which has made the kids evening baseball games delightful to attend. Connor and Alex both had games on Monday and Kenzie had practice. Kearsyn and Bekah were really good at the boys games considering that we had to be there for a few hours. It was fun watching the boys play although both their teams lost. Connor had and awesome hit his first time up to bat, first pitch of the game. I did come to the conclusion that Connor's team really needs some lessons on how to slide into a base after he basically rolled head of heels during his attempt and another kid did a face during his. Luckily neither one were hurt and it was quite comical to watch. LOL Then there was a whole series of errors strung together that was hilarious. At one point, they had two kids on 2nd base. After a lot of back and forth between first, second, third, first, third, home...the play finally ended with the kid getting tagged out at home. Alex's team didn't fair much better but he looked pretty good at catcher. His brace seems to be working out pretty well as he didn't have any complaints about his ankle after the game.

Crazy, Crazy Day

Yesterday started out with me going to Easton for Kenzie's softball practice with Kenzie, Bekah and Kearsyn and Andy heading toward the fields with the rest of the kids for opening day parade and then games. I left a little early so we could run by the store there to return something. We spent two+ hrs there then returned to one of the fields on the island where the twins were playing their first coach pitch game. Andy came from Connor's game at another field, I dropped Bekah and Kearsyn with him, then took Kenzie over to Connor's field so we could grab him as soon as he was done so we could head to Chestertown for a choir concert. Oh yeah, and we did try to grab something to eat in there but it wasn't easy. Since we had to be at the concert an hour early so they could practice, I took the opportunity to walk down to the river and sat there enjoying the beautiful weather, watching the ducks and the boats on the water and reading a book for a little while. After the concert, we quickly grabbed something for dinner before returning home to change and heading back out the door to church...where both Connor and Alex had alter service duty last night.

Alex got to ride in the fire truck during the parade yesterday, then attended a search and rescue training for the fire fighters where he helped set up the training. Unfortunately part way through the exercise, they got a call and all had to leave. Worked out okay for Alex though cause that meant he was able to get to the start of his baseball game on time.

Today my parents, sister and bil came over to finish celebrating Connor's birthday. It's a beautiful day and they spent a good portion of it outside throwing the ball around. We had to cut short the fun though as Connor and Kenzie have one last choir concert today which Connor was totally bummed about. He would have much rather stayed here to play.

After this weekend, I think I'm ready to go back to work tomorrow for a relaxing day but I know tomorrow evening is going to be crazy. Both Alex and Connor have baseball games and Kenzie has to be back in Easton for practice. It just never slows down...but I know when these guys are out of the house, I'll be missing all the activity.

Long overdue update

Things have just been crazy here lately. It's been a rough year but we've made some changes and I'm hoping things are starting to smooth out some.

Here's a quick up date on what's been going on (or not so quick now that I see how much I've written. Yikes!):

Alex got accepted into the Catholic High School that he applied to...I think I told you guys that he was applying. He has to take a 3hr placement test next Wednesday and then has to take a math placement test sometime in May. We still have to figure out to pay for this but we did apply for financial through the diocese and the school so hopefully we'll get something from either one or both of them. Alex has also become a jr volunteer firefighter. We haven't quite worked out what all that entails but he's gone to a few meetings and he's allowed to do some of the training sessions. Since baseball season has started back up again, that of course means that Alex's ankle is hurting him again. Happens everytime he plays a sport. We took him to his pediatrician the other day who has referred us to a specialist He thinks he has an issue with a ligament in his ankle. He has an appt to get it looked at next Thursday. Alex's confirmation is coming up on May 3. My sister is his sponsor which has been nice because she's been over once a month to go parent/sponsor days with him.

Connor and Kenzie had their big choir festival in Frederick in February. This is where 4 choirs from around the state get together for the day to practice then give a combined concert that night. It's awesome! They've also done a couple of piano recitals (along with Tyler) with another one coming up next month.

Kenzie has her first softball tournamment of the year this weekend. Our course the games tomorrow will most likely get rained out with this nasty storm that is heading our way...Andy called a little while ago to say the it was already raining where they are. So far they've played two games today with on more to go. Unfortunately they've lost both games so far.

Bekah is doing great. She's still doing speech therapy twice a month and she is now talking up a storm. She's babbles so much now that it makes me wonder why we were so anxious to get her talk...it was kind of nice to have her quiet. LOL Actually, it makes communicating so much easier with her now. And it's funny because as soon as she started talking she stopped using the majority of the sign language that we had taught here. Guess she figured that she didn't need it anymore since she now can say the words. There are still a few signs she uses but not many.

Kearsyn is now 6 months old...wow where has that time gone?? She had her check up last week and now weighs 16lbs 3oz and is 25in long. She can sit on her own and thinks she is such a big girl in doing so. LOL No interest in rolling over yet. And she still hardly eats anything. I still have milk in the freezer that I pumped back in November...makes me wonder why I'm still pumping as we seem to have plenty in reserve. LOL I think she is trying to cut some teeth as she is constantly chomping on something...she is particularly fond of your shoulder and chin. She also likes to try and shove her entire fist in her mouth. Silly girl!

Andy is getting ready to go on his annual vacation with his dad. They are going to the Grand Canyon this year and are leaving May 4 or maybe it's the 5th. I can't remember as it had to get changed because of Alex's confirmation. This means I'll get to spend the week at home with the kids. Wonder what trouble we can find to get into. ;-)

Things at work are finally starting to settle down. I think we've finally gotten out of the mode of putting out fires everyday and can focus on the work we are supposed to be doing. It's been a tough year so far with getting the news of my bosses cancer...latest report is that the radiation and chemo have not been able to shrink the tumor at all so they are looking for a new drug to try him on. I also found that another friend I used to work with has had is cancer come back and has metastized to other areas. He's now diagnosed at stage 4 which totally depresses me. On the good news front, my sister is going to have a baby. Her due date is Halloween whch would 5 members of our family with October birthdays if the baby comes then.

I'm sure there is more but that's all I can think of for now. I'll try to see if I can get a few pictures up so you can see how much the little ones have grown.
